Cheever to return to wheel for Indy 500
Tomas Enge will drive the Cheever Racing entry this weekend in the IRL IndyCar Series race at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan.
Enge will fill in for owner Eddie Cheever Jr., who will miss the Motegi race while he competes with his Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series team at Virginia International Raceway. Cheever will return to the car when teams begin preparation next month for the Indianapolis 500.
Enge, a 29-year-old from the Czech Republic, is a former Formula One driver who competed in the IndyCar Series in 2004 and 2005. Last year, Enge finished 16th in the final standings with one top-five finish and four top-10 finishes.
His best finish last year was fifth at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. He started on the front row at Texas Motor Speedway and started third at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He also competed in two IndyCar Series races in 2004 for Patrick Racing.
