Ward, Henry split AMA Supermoto wins
CLARKSTON, Mich. -- Jeff Ward and Doug Henry split victories in the AMA Supermoto Championship on Saturday at Waterford Hills Road Race Course.
Ward, who leads the points standings, won the first race after Henry crashed his Yamaha. Henry won the second leg of the doubleheader after Ward fell off his Honda.
"I wanted to make up for the silly mistake I made in the first race," said Henry, who is second in the standings, nine points behind Ward. "We had a good battle going in the second race and Wardy took a little tumble. It's looking more and more like whoever makes the least mistakes in this series is going to win the title."
Mark Burkhart was second in the first race, followed by Chris Fillmore. German Jurgen Kunzel took the final podium spot in the second leg after nearly catching Ward, who picked up his bike after his crash to hold on to second.
Ward and Henry each have four victories this season. The next round is in Denver on Aug. 26.
