Ward wins three of four at AMA Supermoto Classic
DENVER -- Jeff Ward won two races Saturday to finish the weekend with three victories in four events in The AMA Fay Myers Suzuki Supermoto Classic.
Riding a Troy Lee Designs Honda, Ward extended his points lead over Graves Yamaha's Doug Henry to 22.
"I finished ahead of Doug (Henry) in every race and that's what I needed," said Ward, who earlier this month was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame and won a gold at the X-Games. "The series is a long way from being over so I won't be comfortable unless I have more than a 25-point lead going into the final race at Long Beach."
Mark Burkhart, of Pickerington, Ohio, won the first of the four races on Friday, but he suffered crashes in the second race Friday and the first race Saturday. Burkhart recovered to finish third in the final race Saturday.
