Wonder, 30 Seconds to Mars top Fontana VIP list

Stevie Wonder will serve as grand marshal for the Sharp Aquos 500, and alternative rock band 30 Seconds to Mars tops the entertainment lineup for California Speedway on Labor Day weekend.

Music legend Stevie Wonder will be grand marshal of the Sharp Aquos 500 on Sept. 2 at California Speedway in Fontana, Calif.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have a talent the likes of Stevie Wonder serving as our grand marshal," California Speedway President Gillian Zucker said in a release. "Stevie is one of the most influential icons in the world of music who literally has millions of fans across the globe."

The 25-time Grammy Award winner will give the "Gentlemen, Start Your Engines" command to the NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers.

Since age 12, Wonder has amassed 49 Top 40 singles and 32 No. 1 singles, including "Superstition," "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life," and "Sir Duke" over the past four decades.

Wonder, an artist, songwriter and producer, has received the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and an Academy Award, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Songwriters' Hall of Fame in 2002. In 2004 he received Billboard Magazine's highest honor for creative achievement, the Century Award.

California Speedway's musical entertainment scheduled for the weekend include alternative rockers 30 Seconds to Mars, hard rock band Little Caesar and souther rocker Peter Branton.

Thirty Seconds to Mars is known for actor-frontman Jared Leto as well as platinum-selling band with hit singles such as "The Kill (Bury Me)" which became the longest running single on Billboard's modern rock chart, and "From Yesterday" which reached No. 1 on the same chart.

"We are thrilled to host a band the caliber of 30 Seconds to Mars at California Speedway," Zucker said in a release. "There is no question that they will put on an amazing performance that our guests will really enjoy. Our entertainment lineup is going to be one of the best -- if not the best -- we've ever had here."
