Skinner scores sixth pole of season
HAMPTON, Ga. -- Mike Skinner breezed to his sixth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series pole of the season Saturday and will start on the inside of the front row for the EasyCare Service Contracts 200.
Skinner's Toyota Tundra clocked 182.591 miles per hour around the 1.5-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway to clinch the season's $10,000 Bud Pole Award, which will be presented at the champion's banquet in Orlando, Fla., on Dec. 11.
It is the first pole since Sept. 24 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Skinner, who is sixth in the standings, 346 points off the pace, with four races remaining.
Series points leader Ted Musgrave will start on the outside of the front row in a Dodge Ram. Brandon Whitt starts Darrell Waltrip's Boogity Toyota third, and Todd Kluever's Ford F-150 and Kyle Busch's Chevrolet Silverado round out the top five.
Busch, a Nextel Cup rookie who became this series' youngest winner at 20 years, 18 days in May, has recorded five top-fives in seven starts on this circuit.
Dennis Setzer, who trails Musgrave by 54 points in the battle for the NCTS title, will sixth in a Chevrolet.
