Role filled in-house on an interim basis
MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Mike Ford has resigned as crew chief for NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Dale Jarrett, Robert Yates Racing said Monday.
"Mike made this decision based on what was in the best interest for himself and for his family,'' said Eddie D'Hondt, general manager for RYR. "We obviously wish him the best in his future endeavors."
Ford, who did not help Jarrett record a checkered flag since joining Robert Yates Racing in November 2003, could not be reached immediately for comment.
D'Hondt said the team is actively pursuing a replacement.
"Until we find the right individual for the job, we will fill the role in-house on an interim basis," he said.
Jarrett, the 1999 series champion, is 14th in the Cup standings with one pole, one top-five and two top-10 finishes. The best finish this season by the No. 88 Ford was fifth last month at Bristol.
The 48-year-old Jarrett has 31 career victories but none since the Subway 400 on February 23, 2003.
