|   | RK(LW) | DRIVER | TOP 10s | COMMENT |
| 1 (3) | Dario Franchitti | 12 | Always in the mix, and keeps pulling off timely victories. Has generally been a tick off teammate Dixon on 1.5-milers like those that close out the season, but unlikely to falter down the stretch. |
| 2 (2) | Ryan Briscoe | 11 | Seventh runner-up finish puts Briscoe back in the points lead, and he is coming off a thrilling win at the last 1.5-mile speedway. Will benefit from being Team Penske's sole championship focus. |
| 3 (1) | Scott Dixon | 11 | A comparatively poor weekend -- again -- for Dixon at Infineon, which will not go down as his favorite track. Probably the favorite at the last three tracks, but can he make up 20-point deficit? |
| 4 (4) | Helio Castroneves | 8 | Out of championship contention after another road-course DNF. Might be pressing to stay in touch with his Penske teammates. Can help Briscoe's title hopes by stealing points from Ganassi drivers. |
| 5 (10) | Tony Kanaan | 9 | There is a huge drop-off after the top four in the Power Rankings; TK hasn't really done enough to justify placing fifth, but neither has anybody else. |
| 6 (9) | Danica Patrick | 9 | Revealed at Infineon that she is likely to remain in the IndyCar Series and with Michael Andretti's team. But the race, like many in the second half of her '09 campaign, ended in disappointment. |
| 7 (6) | Marco Andretti | 8 | Hasn't made friends with the Ganassi drivers in recent races; blocked Franchitti at Edmonton and spun out Dixon on the last lap at Infineon. Had best road-course qualifying effort of the season at Infineon. |
| 8 (7) | Graham Rahal | 7 | Caught up in first-lap fracas at Infineon and subsequent poor finish dropped him to ninth in points standings. |
| 9 (8) | Justin Wilson | 5 | Gambled on going to the back of the grid due to switching tires, but gamble paid off with a seventh-place finish. Could squeak into top 10 of final points standings with improved oval runs to close out season. |
| 10 | Hideki Mutoh | 7 | Has arguably been Andretti Green Racing's most consistent performer over the second half of the season. Lost third place late in Infineon race but fifth at the flag matched his best IndyCar road-course finish. |
