RK(LW) | DRIVER | TOP 10s | COMMENT
Dario Franchitti | 5 | Franchitti's second win of the season at Iowa Speedway shows he will be a front-runner on every type of track for the rest of the season. Has the mentality to drive for points when he needs to, yet boasts the speed to compete for wins. Sharp pit performance contributed to the Iowa win as intrateam rivalry with Scott Dixon's No. 9 car intensifies within the Ganassi organization.
Ryan Briscoe | 5 | Briscoe has raised his game on ovals this season and Penske seems to have a slight edge on natural road courses. Richmond was the Australian's worst race in 2008 and he needs to make sure he brings his car home in the top six this year to maintain his championship lead.
Scott Dixon | 5 | After the Ganassi team set the pace in practice at Iowa, Dixon wished qualifying had not been canceled due to damp track conditions. While he was racing hard with Helio Castroneves for the lead in the early going, contact between the two compromised Dixon's race and he was happy to bring his damaged car home fifth.
Helio Castroneves | 5 | On his "on" weekends, Castroneves is clearly still as quick as anybody in the IndyCar Series. Problem is, he's still inconsistent compared with his top championship competition. Helio will remain in title contention for the rest of the season, but it could be an up-and-down ride.
Danica Patrick | 6 | With top-seven finishes in six of seven starts, Danica is putting together her most consistently competitive IndyCar campaign. She led some laps at Iowa but still doesn't look like she's ready to battle for wins on pure speed.
Tony Kanaan | 4 | Kanaan's luck has been especially poor this year and finishing races has been a problem for the Andretti Green Racing team leader. A second IndyCar championship appears to be slipping away as the Ganassi and Penske drivers are starting to separate themselves from the rest in the point standings.
Dan Wheldon | 5 | Wheldon drove a solid race to earn fourth place at Iowa, the last car on the lead lap. The Panther team continues to function at a competitive level, but the car is just a fraction slower than the pacesetters from Penske and Ganassi. One of a handful of drivers competing for that coveted fifth spot in the championship.
Graham Rahal | 3 | Rahal and Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing have demonstrated more speed on ovals in their second season in the IndyCar Series, but the 20-year-old is still prone to occasional mistakes. This group will hope to make the most from the summer road racing swing.
Marco Andretti | 4 | Coming off a third-place finish at Iowa Speedway in 2008, Andretti was hoping to post another solid result to leap back into championship contention. Instead, his weekend started with a crash (suspected mechanical failure) and ended with a lackluster run to 12th place.
Hideki Mutoh | 4 | Mutoh finished on the podium at Iowa for the second consecutive season and could conceivably work up to being the No. 2 Andretti Green driver in the points standings. He needs to find his Iowa form elsewhere.
