TOOELE, Utah -- Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty took another step toward a Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype championship Saturday, winning the Utah 250 at Miller Motorsports Park.

Gurney, who took over the team's Pontiac Riley on the 17th lap after partner Fogarty qualified on the pole, led the final 27 of the 56 laps in the 2 hour, 45-minute race for a season-high fourth victory.

He had a 1.264-second lead over the Ford Dallara of Max Angelelli and Brian Friselle at the checkered flag. Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas finished third in a Lexus Riley.

The victory gives Gurney and Fogarty an eight-point lead (309-301) over Angelelli and Friselle entering the Oct. 10 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Pruett and Rojas are third in the standings, 10 points behind the leaders.

Romain Dumas and Tim Bernhard finished fourth in a Porsche Riley. Burt Frisselle and Mark Wilkins were fifth in a Ford Riley.

Jeff Segal and Emil Assentato won GT class honors in a Mazda RX-8, taking the lead two laps from the finish when Robin Liddell and Dirk Werner tangled on the backside of the 24-turn, 4.486-mile road course.
