Aaron Brooks, the crew chief for Frank Hawley's Funny Car team at R2B2 Racing, is leaving at the end of the month to take a position with Alan Johnson's new two-car Top Fuel team in 2009, R2B2 Racing said Tuesday.

Brooks has earned a reputation as one of the top young tuners of nitromethane-fuel Funny Cars. This season, he and Hawley have earned a No. 1 qualifying position at the Carolinas Nationals in Charlotte and a final-round appearance at Reading, Pa.

Rob Centorbi, Brooks' assistant with Hawley, will join him on Johnson's team.

"While this is a fantastic opportunity for Aaron and Rob to learn under a legend, we are saddened to see them leave," said R2B2 Racing team owner Roger Burgess. "I wish them both the best of luck."
