Green is Schumacher's new crew chief
BROWNSBURG, Ind. -- Mike Green will be the crew chief for defending NHRA champion Tony Schumacher's U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster in the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, the team announced Thursday.Green joined Don Schumacher Racing for the 2008 season as crew chief of the FRAM Top Fuel dragster driven by Cory McClenathan, leading it to a third-place points finish for the season. Todd Okuhara and Phil Shuler will take over as co-crew chiefs for McClenathan's car in 2009.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge," said Green. "We have a great organization here at Don Schumacher Racing, where we share information among the teams. And with [Shuler and Okuhara] working on Cory Mac's FRAM car, I know both teams will benefit from each other's input. Our goal is to win another championship for DSR, and maybe we can make it a one-two finish at the end of the year."
Tony Schumacher's previous tuner, Alan Johnson, left to run his own team after helping Schumacher win his fifth consecutive Top Fuel title -- an achievement that led to Schumacher being named Driver of the Year.
