A round-by-round account of the welterweight showdown between champion Carlos "Tata" Baldomir and "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas:

Round 1

The bell sounds and both fighters come out swinging. Mayweather takes the fight to Baldomir, who is bleeding early. Baldomir is fighting with a double-digit weight advantage at the start of this fight, and doesn't otherwise appear to be fazed. Mayweather appears to be the busier fighter.

Round 2

Baldomir steps up his aggression in this round, but has yet to catch Mayweather flush. Mayweather successfully sticks and moves out of range. Baldomir is looking to land a big shot, but Mayweather displays his quickness. Mayweather is busier but is not hurting Baldomir, either.

Round 3

Mayweather continues to methodically stalk Baldomir, fighting a smart fight. Baldomir charges forward, backing Mayweather into the ropes, but Mayweather escapes. Mayweather lands a right, keeps moving, then another right a few moments later. Baldomir isn't hurt, but he isn't scoring. Baldomir works the body as the round ends.

Round 4

Mayweather measures with his left jab, clearly the quicker fighter. Mayweather lands two jabs. Baldomir tries to tie up Mayweather on the ropes, but not for long. Mayweather lands rights to Baldomir's face from several angles. Mayweather knows he can get to Baldomir. Baldomir lands a left, but Mayweather counters to end the round.

Round 5

Mayweather starts out beating Baldomir to the punch, landing short rights and long lefts. Baldomir appears to be tiring. Mayweather gets in a hard right after Baldomir attempts to put together a combination. Mayweather sticks Baldomir with pinpoint accuracy with his right hand. This round is the "clinic" round for Mayweather. He lands the right, moves out of range. Baldomir misses with a right as the round ends.

Round 6

Baldomir comes out stalking Mayweather, but Mayweather sticks to his game plan and continues to score against Baldomir. Baldomir attempts to tie up Mayweather with some success, but Mayweather is not about to stay a stationary target. Mayweather has a tactical advantage in using his speed. Baldomir looks to body Mayweather to the ropes and fight inside. Baldomir lands a combination, only to see Mayweather counter with multiple punches. Both fighters engage in a spirited volley of punches at the end of the round.

Round 7

Mayweather maintains control of the pace, and it's his fight to lose. Baldomir comes straight ahead, but Mayweather's footwork is too good. Baldomir lands a couple shots, but Mayweather strikes again with multiple answers. Baldomir looks to work the body of Mayweather, with limited success.

Round 8

Baldomir emerges as the aggressor in this round, stalking Mayweather. Mayweather moves comfortably around the ring, measuring Baldomir and picking his spots. Baldomir scores with a body shot. Mayweather is cornered, and Baldomir takes advantage briefly. Both fighters trade rights. Mayweather throws a couple of left jabs, keeping his distance.

Round 9

Mayweather continues to beat Baldomir to the punch, sticking and moving, sticking and moving. Mayweather has successfully negated Baldomir's weight advantage with superior speed. Baldomir cannot fight what he cannot hit. Mayweather backs up and still throws punches. He stays on his game plan.

Round 10

Mayweather proves a difficult target for Baldomir. The action has died down somewhat; the crowd's a little restless. Baldomir corners Mayweather briefly, but Mayweather continues to move gracefully. It's the least active round of the fight.

Round 11

Mayweather maintains his strategy as Baldomir's face appears more bloody as the round progresses. Mayweather makes Baldomir miss repeatedly. Near the end of the round, both fighters exchange volleys, with Mayweather getting the better of it.

Round 12

Baldomir will need a knockout to win, though that is highly unlikely against the savvy, speedy Mayweather. Baldomir catches Mayweather with a left, but it has little effect. Mayweather keeps his distance, picking his spots. His footwork and conditioning take over. Mayweather is confident in his performance, bobbing and weaving. Mayweather raises his right hand in the final seconds, anticipating the victory.

By unanimous decision (120-108 twice, 118-110) "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather (37-0) becomes the new WBC welterweight champion.
