Guerrero to return vs. Arrieta
LAS VEGAS -- Robert Guerrero will return to the ring to face Roberto Arrieta in a lightweight bout April 30 in Las Vegas.
Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya said Saturday that the 10-round fight at the Tropicana Las Vegas also would highlight the return of the "Solo Boxeo Tecate" series on Telefutura.
It will be Guerrero's first since he dominated Malcolm Klassen last August in Houston to claim the IBF 130-pound title.
In February, Guerrero (25-1-1, 17 KOs) vacated his IBF belt to be with his wife, Casey, during the latest steps in her lengthy struggle with leukemia.
The 27-year-old Guerrero announced his decision a week after he was forced to drop out of a prospective fight with Michael Katsidis.
Guerrero won a featherweight title before his wife was diagnosed with the disease in 2007. He vacated that title in 2008 and moved up to junior lightweight, defeating Klassen.
In a news release, Golden Boy officials said Guerrero is ready to return to the ring because his wife is "taking positive steps on the road to recovery."
Casey Guerrero is recovering from a bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy.
The Guerreros, whose hometown is Gilroy, Calif., just south of the Bay area, have two young children.
The 34-year-old Arrieta (34-15-4, 15 KOs), from Argentina, has won four of his last five bouts.
