Hockey goalies are a singular breed of professional athlete, and the vocation attracts a particular kind of person. They spend large portions of each contest alone at one end of the rink when the action is at the opposite end and are then expected to perform miracles even when -- especially when -- the five skaters in front of them have failed in their defensive duties.
