Federer advances to 3rd round at Australian Open

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Roger Federer continued his bid for a fifth title at Melbourne Park, advancing to the third round of the Australian Open with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win over Russian veteran Nikolay Davydenko on Thursday night.

The second-ranked Federer, who has four Australian titles among his 17 Grand Slams, extended his career record to 18-2 against Davydenko.
