Paynter wins after long illness-induced layoff

INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Paynter won the $63,866 feature at Betfair Hollywood Park by 4½ lengths Friday in his return to racing after a nearly 11-month layoff because of serious health issues.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, who had five winners on the card, Paynter ran seven furlongs on Cushion Track in 1:21.86 and paid $2.80, $2.20 and $2.10 as the 2-5 favorite. It was his 4-year-old debut for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.
