Breeders' Cup Fan Fantasy - The Turf

ESPN.com has challenged eight racing experts to match wits in the first Breeders' Cup Fan Fantasy game, where your votes will determine the greatest Breeders' Cup World Championships victors of all time. Over a five-week span, the expert panel's eight greatest champions in the Mile, Sprint, Ladies Classic (formerly the Distaff), Turf and Classic will be unveiled. Each week, the voting will be opened to ESPN.com readers, who will cast their ballots for the greatest champion in each division.

We'll keep a tally of how the expert stables are doing, provide a look at each of the weekly divisional contenders and provide the voting results in the next week's BC Fan Fantasy column.

Last Week's Breeders' Cup Fan Fantasy Ladies' Classic Results:

The fans and experts agreed in the Ladies Classic, as first overall selection Personal Ensign remained unbeaten even in the annals of history, registering 54.2% of the vote. Azeri nabbed 21%, while Lady's Secret scored 10% of your balloting to complete the trifecta. That gives Gary West of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram 5 points for Personal Ensign, Simon Bray of TVG 3 points for Azeri and Jon White of HRTV 2 points for Lady's Secret in our expert Fan Fantasy race.

Bio Blast: Selected seventh in our expert draft by Ed Fountaine, Fantastic Light ranks as the No. 4 all-time money earner in North American history behind Curlin, Cigar and Skip Away & He turned up the heat in his second Breeders' Cup Turf appearance when he stormed to a popular victory at Belmont Park as the 7-to-5 favorite & Among those in his wake was With Anticipation & One year prior, he finished fifth, beaten just over two lengths by Kalanisi, in the 2000 Turf at Churchill Downs & In addition to his Turf victory, Fantastic Light was a five-time Group/Grade 1 winner worldwide, tallying such events as the Hong Kong Cup, Prince of Wales's, Irish Champion and the Man o' War stateside & Trained by Saeed bin Suroor, the Dubai-based star was ridden by Frankie Dettori  the same duo that won the Turf two years' prior with Daylami.

Bio Blast: Selected second in our expert draft by Simon Bray, High Chaparral is the only two-time winner in Breeders' Cup Turf history, registering his encore score in a dramatic, dead-heat fashion with Johar & Popular winner of the 2002 Turf at 4-to-5 odds, High Chaparral defeated a field that included With Anticipation and Golan & He repeated the feat in '03 against what was a much deeper field that included Falbrav, Sulamani and Storming Home & He and Johar remain part of the only win dead-heat in Breeders' Cup history & Along with his dual Turf wins, High Chaparral won four other Group 1 races from ages two through four, including the Epsom Derby, Irish Derby and Irish Champion & Trained by Aidan O'Brien, the Irish-based colt was ridden to both scores by Mick Kinane.

Won eight of 10 starts during his title season in '86, and was a four-time Grade 1 winner outside of the Breeders' Cup, capturing the Arlington Million, United Nations twice and the Turf Classic & Trained by Leroy Jolley, the New York-based Manila was ridden by Jose Santos.

Runner-up in the '86 Turf to Manila and eleventh as a sophomore in '85, a more seasoned Theatrical was able to score his Turf crown over Arc de Triomphe winner Trempolino and eventual 1988 Turf champion Great Communicator & His championship season also included five other Grade 1 scores, including the Turf Classic, Man o' War and Sword Dancer & Trained originally by Dermot Weld, transferred to Bobby Frankel and eventually to Bill Mott, the Irish-bred import came to America full-time in 1986 and was ridden to his Breeders' Cup win by Pat Day.
