INGLEWOOD, Calif . -- Rigoletta, the winner of the Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes at Hollywood Park on Oct. 3, will miss the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5 because of a splint injury, trainer Dan Hendricks said on Sunday.
Rigoletta is expected to be sidelined until the winter-spring meeting at Santa Anita, Hendricks said.
Owned by Thor-Bred Stable, Rigoletta has won 2 of 4 starts and $210,820. After finishing fifth in her debut at Hollywood Park in July, she beat maidens at Del Mar in August and was third, beaten 6 3/4 lengths by Tell a Kelly in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante on Sept. 4.
Tell a Kelly was second to Rigoletta in the Oak Leaf Stakes.
Miss Keller still aimed at Filly and Mare Turf
ETOBICOKE, Ontario -- Miss Keller, one of just two Woodbine-based entrants in the E.P. Taylor, tried her best to hold the fort but wound up a length back as the runner-up to France's Reggane in Sunday's Grade 1 filly and mare turf feature.
Miss Keller, trained by Roger Attfield, is owned by Three Chimneys Racing LLC and is headed for the 1 3/8-mile Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Churchill Downs.
"As long as she trains well we'll be going," said Attfield. "She broke out of the pack a little earlier than I'd have liked her to, but I was very, very pleased with her race.
Mekong Melody, a second Attfield starter in the Taylor, was contentious for a mile but began to fade under rider Patrick Husbands at the top of the stretch.
"At the top of the hill she was very rank," said Attfield. "He just couldn't get her to settle. It was very disappointing,"
