LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Awesome Feather entered Friday's Grade 1, $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies with a reputation as the best 2-year-old filly in Florida. She exited the race with a new title: the best 2-year-old filly in America.

Showing the tactical speed and class that led to her winning all five of her preceding starts in Florida, Awesome Feather secured a good position in the early stages of the Juvenile Fillies, rating in third as R Heat Lightning set the pace with splits of 48.14 seconds and 1:13.11 in the 1 1/16-mile race.

Leaving the turn, Awesome Feather began to make her move, and after dueling with R Heat Lightning through the length of the stretch, she gradually pulled clear in the final furlong.

The winner, a daughter of Awesome of Course, trained by Stanley Gold and owned and bred by Fred Brei's Jacks Or Better Farm, raced the 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.17. She paid $10.40 as the slight favorite in the field of 12.

R Heat Lightning held on gamely to be second, finishing clear of Delightful Mary in third. Believe in A. P. was fourth.
