Uncle Mo dominates BC Juvenile
Uncle Mo proved himself the best 2-year-old male in the land and certainly clinched a divisional Eclipse Award with an overwhelming victory in Saturday's $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs. Uncle Mo, the strong favorite off blow-out scores in his first two career starts including the Champagne Stakes, prompted the early pace set by outsider Riveting Reason, poked his head in front nearing the stretch, and responded to pressure from jockey John Velazquez to score by about four lengths. Boys At Tosconova, the second choice in the betting at 7-2, finished willingly to be easily second best. He finished about five lengths ahead of third-place finisher Rogue Romance. Biondetti finished fourth. Jaycito, the third choice in the betting at 5-1, nearly bolted entering the backstretch. Despite being far out of it at that point, Jaycito actually finished with interest. He finished seventh. Owned by Repole Stable and trained by Todd Pletcher, who at this Breeders' Cup also trained the winners of both Juvenile turf races and the runner-up in the Juvenile Fillies, Uncle Mo covered the 1 1/16 miles in his first attempt around two turns in 1:42.60. The Kentucky-bred colt by Indian Charlie and out of Playa Maya, by Arch, paid $4.80.
