NEW YORK - Preakness Stakes winner Afleet Alex was shipped from Pimlico Race Course to New York on Saturday, a week before the Belmont Stakes.

Afleet Alex, the likely favorite for next week's third leg of the Triple Crown, arrived at Belmont Park at about 4:30 p.m. after an uneventful journey from Maryland.

"The trip was fine," said Roque Romero, assistant to trainer Tim Ritchey. "We have very little traffic. He seems to handle everything OK. He has a lot of energy."

The colt's arrival was delayed a week because of a strangles scare at Belmont Park.

Romero said Afleet Alex would likely jog Sunday, pending a discussion with Ritchey.

Afleet Alex, who finished third in the Kentucky Derby behind Giacomo, beat Scrappy T by 4 3/4 lengths in the Preakness.
