Brother Derek tuned for Malibu
Brother Derek, who is scheduled to run in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita on Tuesday, completed his training for that race with a five-furlong work in 1:00.20 on Thursday morning at Hollywood Park, but he may need a new jockey.
Alex Solis, who regularly rides Brother Derek for trainer Dan Hendricks, is also the regular rider for the comebacking Arson Squad, who is trained by Bruce Headley. Ron Anderson, agent for Garrett Gomez, on Thursday said Gomez has the call on Brother Derek if Solis picks Arson Squad.
Brother Derek's workout on Thursday, under exercise rider Luis Ortega, was termed "breezing" by the clockers, the only work of 98 Thursday morning so designated.
Brother Derek, winner of the Santa Anita Derby this year, most recently finished fifth in the Breeders' Cup Classic after setting the early pace.
