Texas Classic Futurity trials
Saturday, Nov. 15, Lone Star Park

The Low-Down: The Texas Classic Futurity trials, at the distance of 400 yards, will be run Saturday at Lone Star Park. Nine trials will kick off an 11-race card. The 10-fastest qualifiers will compete in the finals for the Texas Classic Futurity on Nov. 29 with a purse estimated to be $1 million. While 2008 All-American Futurity first-place finisher STOLIS WINNER is the top attraction in the nine trials on Saturday night, he is certainly not as attractive in the wagering department as 2-year-olds in other trials. STOLIS WINNER breaks from the post No. 2 in the seventh trail, and will be 1-5 or shorter vs. a suspect field that includes three maidens.

Our Eyes: We will zero in on three of the trials.

Trial 1: Lightly-raced maiden FAST CHICKS stands a chance to upset past Grade 1 futurity qualifiers JODYS MONEY POP and SR SUPERSTAR. From the potent barn of Heath Taylor, FAST CHICKS finished with a rush for second in her Lone Star Park debut three weeks ago and switches from Russell Hadley to past AQHA champion rider G.R. Carter. FAST CHICKS also moves to the far outside post.

The Play: FAST CHICKS on top and boxed in the exactas.

Trial 4: MIGHTY CORONA looks like a standout for the Taylor/Carter combo. He dropped a neck photo in his last Dash For Cash Futurity trial outing vs. Specially Alluring, who ran sixth in the $531,945 finals. Previously, MIGHT CORONA ran ninth in the All-American Futurity.

The Play: Make a one-way exacta MIGHTY CORONA to THECOLOROFTHEBLUES, who was a troubled fourth in his last trial outing while facing winner Executive Looks, who since finished eighth in the G1 Dash For Cash Futurity final.

Trial 6: This is my play of the night. LAKE VIEW DREAMS was sensational in his last start when winning by a 2 1/4-length margin over the Lone Star oval Oct. 31. Among those he beat were Sixes Cartel, who was eighth in the G1 Remington Park Futurity earlier this year. LAKE VIEW DREAMS sizzled 350 yards in :17.51 while no other 350-yard winner went faster than :17.83 over a three-day period from Oct. 30 through Nov. 1.

The play: key LAKE VIEW DREAMS on top in exactas over ZOOM FOR FUN and SIXY ROYAL KINGS, who both are past Grade 1 futurity qualifiers.

The Bottom Line: Overall, you'd have to say, pre-trials, that the Texas Classic Futurity's obvious favorite is STOLIS WINNER. If I were to wager on him in Saturday's Race 7 trial, I would make a one-way exacta STOLIS WINNER to BUDINO. The latter was a troubled sixth vs. LAKE VIEW DREAMS in the rapid Oct. 31 allowance contest and benefits by two recent outs over the Lone Star Oval.
