N.M. Juvenile scouting report
Sunday, Aug. 2, Ruidoso Downs
The Low-Down: Based on her first two wins in which she won by a combined seven lengths, EBW OBSESSION looms a short-priced favorite to capture Sunday's $75,000 John Deere New Mexico Juvenile Challenge at Ruidoso Downs. The winner of the 350-yard dash gets a berth into the finals of the John Deere Juvenile Challenge to be held at Los Alamitos Race Course on Oct. 31.
Our Eyes: Let's look at the leading contenders in post position order for in Sunday's New Mexico Juvenile Challenge.
1. MS DASHAIR (17.63): She likes the rail post and could easily be in the exacta or trifecta. She dropped a nose photo in her trial vs. Bring The Bling, who previously ran third in an Ed Burke Million trial at Los Alamitos.
4. FEATURE THE GOODTIMES (17.80): She showed good potential at Los Alamitos earlier this year, despite trying to lug out in her first two starts. She finished third two outs ago in a Kindergarten trial vs. Tylerite, who since captured the Ed Burke Juvenile Stakes. She made her first start for trainer Paul Jones when scoring a one-length trial win over prior West Texas Futurity sixth-place finisher Heza Miracle Dip.
6. BRING THE BLING (17.63): He looked like one of the top two year olds at Los Alamitos when scoring a 2 1/2-length maiden victory while beating four next-out winners. He disappointed when third in an Ed Burke Million trial when facing eventual Ed Burke Million deadheat winner Streakin Laquinta. He edged out Ms Dashair with a nice late surge in a nose trial win and is a full-brother to former AQHA World Champions Ocean Runaway and Wave Carver.
7. EBW OBSESSION (17.49): She looked sensational with a five-length trial win from the rail post while running .14 faster than second-fastest qualifier Bring The Bling. She also looked strong in a prior two-length debut victory when defeating third-place finisher Living Wild, who qualified for this race with a nose setback when running 17.78 in her trial.
8. HEZA MIRACLE DIP (17.95): He is better than his one-length trial setback vs. Feature The Goodtimes. The Royal Miracle Dip gelding was making his first start in three months and ran a fast 300 yards of 15.0 when qualifying for the West Texas Futurity at Sunland Park in April.
The Bottom Line: Since the win odds on EBW OBSESSION will likely be around 3-5, let's use the daughter of Brimmerton in the exactas and trifectas. Underneath I'll be using MS DASHAIR and BRING THE BLING in the second spot, adding in FEATURE THE GOODTIMES and HEZA MIRACLE DIP on the bottom of the trifecta.
