ARCADIA, Calif. -- Zenyatta, the undefeated champion older female of 2008, may race into 2010 before being bred, trainer John Shirreffs said on Thursday.
Zenyatta could run once or twice early in the year, probably at Santa Anita, before being sent to Kentucky for breeding.
Shirreffs said plans for 2010 are contingent on how Zenyatta performs for the remainder of this year.
Zenyatta is expected to have two starts at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting that begins on Wednesday the $300,000 Lady's Secret Stakes for fillies and mares over 1 1/16 miles on Oct. 10 and a race on Breeders' Cup weekend, Nov. 6-7. The Breeders' Cup options include the $2 million Ladies' Classic, which she won last year, on Nov. 6, or the $5 million Classic against males on Nov. 7.
Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, Zenyatta has won 12 races. In her most recent start, she won the Grade 1 Clement Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 9.
