Rachel Alexandra, winless in two starts this year since being named the 2009 Horse of the Year, is likely to make her next start on June 12, majority owner Jess Jackson said Tuesday in a press release. According to Jackson, Rachel Alexandra is being considered for two races at Churchill Downs - the Stephen Foster and the Fleur de Lis - as well as the Ogden Phipps at Belmont Park and the Obeah at Delaware Park. Throughout her time with trainer Steve Asmussen, however, Rachel Alexandra always has competed at the track over which she has regularly trained leading up to the race. Considering she is currently at Churchill Downs, that would make the Fleur de Lis, restricted to females, the favorite. The Stephen Foster is open to all comers. "We were impressed with Rachel's Memorial Day work, breezing six furlongs in 1:11.20 and galloping out a mile in 1:38," Jackson said. "Her next work is Monday, June 7." Jackson said that "our ultimate goal has not changed in scheduling Rachel Alexandra's campaign this year." "We are getting her back to her fitness level of last year with the long term hope to race her in the Breeders' Cup this fall," he said. This year's Breeders' Cup is at Churchill Downs Nov. 5-6.
