Lookin At Lucky worked six furlongs in 1:12.60 at Santa Anita on Saturday, moving the Preakness Stakes winner closer to a potential start in the $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on Aug. 1. Lookin At Lucky worked in company with stablemate El Martillo, starting several lengths behind and finishing well, according to trainer Bob Baffert. El Martillo was timed in 1:13.20. Lookin At Lucky has not started since winning the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on May 15. Last month, Lookin At Lucky missed a week of training because of a fever, but Baffert said on Saturday that the setback is no longer a major concern. I think we ve got him caught up, hopefully, he said. He took a big leap forward towards the Haskell. After today, I feel comfortable. He s looked good these last few weeks. Jockey Martin Garcia, who rode Lookin At Lucky in the Preakness, was aboard the colt for the workout. He said he felt great, Baffert said.
Owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman, Lookin At Lucky was the champion 2-year-old male of 2009. A six-time stakes winner, Lookin At Lucky has won 7 of 10 starts and $2,113,000.
