INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- When Star Billing was about two lengths in front in the final furlong of Saturday's $100,000 Senorita Stakes at Hollywood Park, jockey Chantal Sutherland was already shouting.

It was not all in celebration of an imminent second stakes win of the day for Sutherland.

"She was looking around," Sutherland said of Star Billing. "Her ears went forward. I started screaming"

A little vocal encouragement seemed to help Star Billing in the final strides as she held her advantage to win by 2 3/4 lengths over 42-1 Entrustment. Cambina, the 4-5 favorite, finished third in the field of seven 3-year-old fillies, closing from last.

Sutherland, who won the Cool Frenchy Stakes earlier on M One Rifle, had Star Billing well-placed throughout, stalking Wave of Applause, who set early fractions of 23.41 and 47.09 seconds. Star Billing reached the front in early stretch, and ran a mile on turf in the Grade 3 Senorita in 1:34.52. She paid $19.20.

Sutherland said that Star Billing is focused with a target in front of her. "She does like to aim at a horse," she said. "She can sit and wait."

Star Billing races for breeder George Krikorian and trainer John Shirreffs, and is unbeaten in two starts. Star Billing won a maiden race on the hillside turf course at Santa Anita in March in her debut. By Dynaformer, Star Billing has earned $92,400.

Cool Frenchy: M One Rifle sets track record

M One Rifle set a five-furlong track record of 55.98 seconds with a half-length win over previous record holder Cost of Freedom in Saturday's $91,010 Cool Frenchy Stakes.

M One Rifle ($9.60) stalked Cost of Freedom, who set early fractions of 22.14 and 44.28 seconds for the first half-mile. Sutherland guided M One Rifle between horses in early stretch and took the lead in the final sixteenth.

"He kicked in so hard on the turn, I fell back in the saddle a touch," Sutherland said. "It was like, wow, what a great acceleration."

Cost of Freedom, who held the previous five-furlong mark of 56.14 seconds set last December, held second, finishing 2 1/2 lengths in front of Bulldogger in the field of six.

The Cool Frenchy Stakes was M One Rifle's first stakes win since the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita in December. Owned by a partnership, M One Rifle, a 5-year-old gelding, has won 5 of 13 starts and $470,002.
