LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Arkansas Derby winner Archarcharch got serious on Friday morning at Churchill Downs, working a crisp five furlongs in 59.36 seconds with jockey Jon Court aboard. He was one of two prospective Kentucky Derby starters to breeze over a racetrack upgraded from good to fast after the renovation break, along with Decisive Moment, who went five-eighths in 1:01.46. Archarcharch broke a length behind stablemate Supreme Ruler, drew even after an opening furlong in 11.41, continued on strongly around the turn through splits of 23.06 and 34.88, then pulled away to finish approximaely seven lengths in front of his partner while under strong urging to the wire. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:12.80. Decisive Moment, the first of the pair to go, posted fractions of 12.80 and 36.68 for three-eighths before finishing his final quarter in 24.78 under some pressure from jockey Jesus Castanon. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:15.19. Friday morning's Oaks-Derby training session was the busiest yet. Three prospective Kentucky Oaks runners also worked, Arieza (five furlongs in 59.40), Bouquet Booth (five furlongs in 1:02.20), and Delightful Mary (five furlongs in 1:01.60).
