Oregon picks up first win, beats Louisiana 9-1

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Derek Keller was a one-man wrecking crew.

Keller homered and drove in five runs as Beaverton, Ore., pounded Lake Charles, La., 9-1 in Pool B action at the Little League World Series.

After Oregon scored two runs in the first, Keller hit a two-run single in the second for a 4-0 edge. He added a three-run homer two innings later to extend the advantage to seven runs.

"I was focused and got some good pitches to hit," Keller said. "This is the Series, and I want to do the best I can."

Devon DeJardin pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts without a walk for the Northwest Region champs (1-1), who outhit Lake Charles 9-3.

"He pitched the best game of his life probably," Beaverton manager Jeff Keller said. "He was really in a zone and made some excellent pitches."

Paul Beglis took the loss for the Southwest Region champions (1-1), getting tagged for nine runs and nine hits in five frames. His fourth-inning homer accounted for the team's lone run.

Jace Fry led off the game with a home run and Sam Albert singled in a run three batters later to give Beaverton a 2-0 lead.
