Defending champion Sanchez loses in semis
VINA DEL MAR, Chile -- Second-seeded Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil erased two set points Saturday to beat defending champion David Sanchez of Spain 7-6 (6), 6-4 in the semifinals of the $333,000 BellSouth Open.
Kuerten's opponent Sunday will be fifth-seeded Fernando Gonzalez of Chile, who beat Flavio Saretta of Brazil 6-2, 6-3.
"It's great winning at home, with my people," Gonzalez said after his easy victory over Saretta.
Three-time French Open champion Kuerten predicted "a good, tough match against Gonzalez."
