Former U.S. Open home to host tournaments
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Two new pro tennis tournaments will be held this year at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, the former home of the U.S. Open.
One event is a newly sanctioned WTA Tour hard-court tournament Aug. 23-28, leading into the U.S. Open.
A grass-court USTA Pro Circuit men's challenger June 7-13 will be added to a May 10-16 clay-court challenger that began last year.
The West Side Tennis Club hosted the U.S. Open and its predecessor from 1915-77. The Grand Slam tournament was played there on grass until 1974, then on clay the next three years.
