Williams signs with William Morris Agency

3/25/2004

WASHINGTON -- Serena Williams signed with the William Morris
Agency, leaving her agents at IMG after four years.

"While tennis is my No. 1 priority, there are a number of
interests that I have, which I think William Morris is most suited
to provide for me," Williams said in a statement released Thursday
by her publicist.

"They have a great reputation for their representation of
athletes, and for the ancillary opportunities that they provide
their clients."

After an eight-month absence, she is returning to tournament
tennis Friday at the Nasdaq-100 Open. Williams had left knee
surgery in August.

She has won six Grand Slam titles, including four in a row from
2002-03.

Her interests extending beyond the tennis court include acting
(she's appeared on "Law & Order" and other TV shows) and
fashion design (she has her own line, Aneres).

In December, Williams agreed to a sponsorship contract with Nike
that could be worth close to $40 million over five years.
