VANCOUVER -- Third-seeded Alina Jidkova defeated Shuai Peng 7-5, 7-5 Wednesday and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Vancouver Open.
Lindsay Lee-Waters, seeded eighth, advanced with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory over Galina Voskoboeva, and won consecutive matches for just the second time this year.
Lee-Waters will face the winner of the match between Laura Granville and Bethanie Mattek later Wednesday.
In another first-round match, seventh-seeded Anna-Lena Groenefeld defeated Seiko Okamoto 6-0, 6-1, and set up a second-round match against Bulgarian qualifier Sesil Karatantcheva, who turned 15 on Sunday.
Vilmarie Castellvi beat wild card Marie-Eve Pelletier 6-0, 6-4, and will face second-seeded Milagros Sequera in the second round.
