No. 2 seed's run ended in three sets
NEW YORK -- Kirsten Flipkens, a wild card from Belgium, upset No. 2 seed Emilie Loit of France 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, to move into the semifinals of the Forest Hills Women's Classic at the West Side Tennis Club on Thursday.
Flipkens, a member of the Belgian Federation Cup team, plays No. 4 Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic, who rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia.
Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain overtook Kristina Brandi of Puerto Rico 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (5). Both represented their countries in the Athens Olympics last week.
Medina Garrigues plays top-seeded Elena Likhovtseva of Russia, who advanced on a walkover against Marion Bartoli of France. Bartoli's hand injury forced a default before the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open last week.
