No. 4 seed tops Sanchez 6-0, 6-0
AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- Fourth-seeded Vince Spadea reached the second round of the Heineken Open with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over David Sanchez on Monday.
Spadea overwhelmed his Spanish opponent in 45 minutes, allowing Sanchez only 17 points in the match.
Sanchez defeated Spadea on clay in their only other meeting, but Spadea controlled this match played on hard courts in warm, humid conditions.
"I like the Auckland surface; it suits my game," Spadea said. "I love everything about it here, apart from never having won."
Also, fifth-seeded Fernando Gonzalez beat American James Blake 7-6 (4), 6-1, Jose Acasuso topped Julien Benneteau 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, and Potito Starace beat Mark Nielsen 6-4, 6-4.
