Diver & Swann win US Open Doubles
NEW YORK (Reuters) -- The 11th-seeded pairing of Canadian John Diver and American Cody Swann won their first Grand Slam doubles title on Friday by upsetting the top-seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes of India.
Diver and Swann, who have won five doubles titles together, had failed on their two previous attempts to win a Grand Slam title together in the 1996 and 1997 Australian Open finals.
The victory, which came after waiting out a long rain delay, prevented the top-ranked Indians from capturing their third consecutive Grand Slam trophy.
Bhupathi and Paes have reached the final of all four Grand Slams this year, winning at the French Open and Wimbledon. They have won 15 titles in 20 finals played together.
