Pierce, Schynder, Zvonareva withdraw from Montreal
MONTREAL -- Mary Pierce, Patty Schnyder and Vera Zvonareva withdrew from the women's Rogers Cup that begins play next week.
They are the latest ranked players to withdraw from the tournament. France's Amelie Mauresmo, Belgium's Justine Henin-Hardenne and Venus Williams have already said they will not play. All three are past champions. Mauresmo is ranked No. 1 in the world, Henin-Hardenne is No. 3 and Williams is No. 12.
Second-ranked Kim Clijsters of Belgium and No. 4 Maria Sharapova are the top two seeds in the hardcourt tournament, which opens Monday at Uniprix Stadium.
