Schnyder enters Gaz de France in hopes of WTA berth
BRUSSELS, Belgium -- Patty Schnyder has entered the Gaz de France in hopes of gaining a spot in the season-ending WTA Tour Championship.
Schnyder, who entered the tournament as a wild card, is competing with Kim Clijsters and Martina Hingis for the final two berths in Madrid.
The top eight advance to the WTA Tour Championship. Hingis is seventh, followed by Clijsters and Schnyder.
Schnyder needs to reach the final at both the Linz and Hasselt tournaments to even have a chance at advancing to the season-ending event.
Clijsters, who missed the last two months with a wrist injury, will resume tournament play at her home event despite bruising her tailbone this week.
