Pierce has ruptured ligament in knee, will need surgery
LINZ, Austria -- Mary Pierce, who was carried off the court on a stretcher after hurting her left knee in a fall during the Generali Ladies tournament, needs surgery on a ruptured ligament in her left knee.
Pierce was on the brink of defeating Vera Zvonareva in the Generali Ladies tournament Thursday when she fell behind the baseline.
She left the AKH hospital Friday and plans to be treated in France, the hospital said.
The two-time Grand Slam champion has played only eight events this year because of injuries to her right foot.
