Sucha advances to Pattaya Open quarterfinals
BANGKOK, Thailand -- Martina Sucha of Slovakia upset top-seeded Marion Bartoli of France in three sets Thursday and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Pattaya Women's Open.
Sucha's steady game carried her through hard-fought rallies for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win against the hard-hitting Bartoli.
In another upset, Tzipora Obziler of Israel came back from a set down to beat eighth-seeded Aiko Nakamura of Japan 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the second round.
In other matches, Nicole Pratt of Australia beat U.S. teenager Vania King 6-2, 6-4 and sixth-seeded Gisela Dulko of Argentina advanced in a walkover when Alicia Molik of Australia retired with a right hamstring injury.
