Kudryavtseva upsets No. 2 seed Mueller, advances at Barcelona
BARCELONA, Spain -- Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia upset second-seeded Martina Mueller of Germany 6-3, 6-4 Tuesday at the Barcelona KIA Open.
Kudryavtsev will face Emmanuelle Gagliardi, who beat Tatiana Perebiynis 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
Flavia Pennetta of Italy eased past Conchita Martinez Granados of Spain 6-2, 6-3.
Top-seeded Francesca Schiavone of Italy reached the second round of the clay-court season finale when Romina Oprandi retired with a right arm injury after losing the first set 6-2.
