Golovin, Srebotnik, Likhovtseva win at Slovenia Open
PORTOROZ, Slovenia -- Top-seeded Tatiana Golovin of France beat Lilia Osterloh of the United States 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 Monday in the first round of the Slovenia Open.
In other first-round play, fourth-seeded Katarina Srebotnik blanked Masha Zec Peskiric 6-0, 6-0 in a 40-minute match between players from Slovenia, and Elena Likhovtseva of Russia defeated Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (8), 6-2.
This was second meeting between Golovin and Osterloh. In the French Open in 2005, Golovin beat the Californian 6-0, 6-2. Golovin reached a career high ranking of No. 16 in May, a month after winning in Amelia Island, Fla., for her only tour title.
Srebotnik was seeded first in Portoroz last year but was ousted in the first round. She is having her best season in singles, having reached the quarterfinals three times.
Likhovtseva eliminated Zakopalova, the 2005 champion. Likhovtseva, with three WTA titles, was "happy with the result, but not with my play."
Third-seeded Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine withdrew from the tournament late Sunday, citing personal reasons.
