Loit earns straight set win to reach Slovenia Open quarterfinals

PORTOROZ, Slovenia -- Emilie Loit defeated qualifier Nathalie Vierin 6-3, 6-4 Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Slovenia Open.

The sixth-seeded Loit will play fourth-seeded Katarina Srebotnik or Meghann Shaughnessy, who play later Thursday.

American Meilen Tu clinched a quarterfinal spot by ousting Croatian qualifier Ana Vrljic 7-6 (1), 6-0. Tu will play top-seeded Tatiana Golovin in Friday's quarterfinal.
