Davenport to face Jankovic in China Open semis
On Friday, Davenport defeated Elena Dementieva 7-6 (1), 6-1, and Jankovic beat Akiko Morigami 6-3, 7-5.
Davenport won the Bali Open last week in her first singles tournament in nearly a year after having a child in June.
Third-seeded Amelie Mauresmo, who skipped the U.S. Open to recover from injuries and appendectomy surgery in March, was upset in the quarterfinal by Peng Shuai 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Peng will meet sixth-seeded Agnes Szavay, who defeated Maria-Emilia Salerni 6-2, 6-4.
The third-ranked Jankovic is aiming for her fifth WTA title this year. She is 67-18 this season.
"My ultimate goal is to be the world No. 1," Jankovic said. "Now my ranking is very close, but I still have a long way to go. I need to work hard and I hope I can make it one day."
