Ljubicic, Gasquet advance with straight-set wins at Ordina Open
DEN BOSCH, Netherlands -- Defending champion Ivan Ljubicic beat Robin Haase 6-3, 7-6 (5) on Monday to advance to the second round of the Ordina Open.
The fourth-seeded Croat last year won his only grass-court title at this Wimbledon warmup.
Second-seeded Richard Gasquet of France also advanced with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win over Olivier Rochus of Belgium. Fellow Frenchman Arnaud Clement beat Benjamin Becker of Germany 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
French Open finalist Dinara Safina, seeded third, beat Pauline Parmentier of France 6-4, 6-1 on the women's side.
Local favorite Michaella Krajicek had 10 aces in ousting Japan's Ai Sugiyama 6-1, 7-5, 7-6 (7). India's Sania Mirza beat eighth-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy 6-4, 6-3.
