Nalbandian beats Andreev; Del Potro solid in rookie debut
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Juan Martin del Potro defeated Nikolay Davydenko 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 Friday to give Argentina a 2-0 lead over Russia in the Davis Cup semifinals.
The 13th-ranked Del Potro showed no signs of nerves as he played his first Davis Cup home match, and he easily dismantled Davydenko in front of a sellout crowd of 14,000.
The winner will face Spain or defending champion United States in the final. Spain leads that semifinal 2-0
Earlier Friday, seventh-ranked David Nalbandian beat Igor Andreev 7-6 (5), 6-2, 6-4. Argentine duo Agustin Calleri and Guillermo Canas will play Igor Kunitsyn and Dimitry Tursunov in Saturday's doubles.
Argentina hasn't lost at home in 10 years, but has never won the Davis Cup. Russia beat Argentina in the 2006 final.
