Peng, 15-year-old de Brito reach Tashkent quarterfinals

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan -- Top-seeded Peng Shuai defeated qualifier Arantxa Rus 6-1, 7-5 Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Tashkent Open.

The 40th-ranked Peng is looking for her first career title. Her quarterfinal opponent will be sixth-seeded Monica Niculescu, who advanced when Yaroslava Shvedova retired because of fatigue.

Third-seeded Sorana Cirstea ousted Anna Lapushchenkova 6-1, 6-4 to reach her fifth quarterfinal this season.

She will face 15-year-old Michelle Larcher de Brito, who beat Tatiana Poutchek 6-4, 6-1.
