Benneteau beats Robredo; wild card Ouanna beats Lapentti
LYON, France -- Julien Benneteau of France upset fifth-seeded Tommy Robredo 6-2, 6-2 and French wild card Josselin Ouanna defeated Nicolas Lapentti 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals of the Lyon Grand Prix on Wednesday.
Robredo faced 13 break points in the match and lost his serve twice in each set. Benneteau will next face either second-seeded Richard Gasquet or Steve Darcis in the quarterfinals. They play Thursday.
Ouanna, ranked 182nd, secured his second career win and next faces either fourth-seeded Gilles Simon of France or Andreas Seppi of Italy.
Simon trailed 4-2 in the second set after losing the first but still beat Juan Monaco of Argentina 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Simon, who lost to Andy Murray in the Madrid Masters final, saved eight of 11 break points.
In the first round, Robin Soderling of Sweden and Paul-Henri Mathieu of France won. Soderling beat Thierry Ascione of France 6-4, 6-1, and Mathieu defeated Guillermo Canas of Argentina 6-3, 6-4.
Also, Christophe Rochus of Belgium beat Gilles Muller of Luxembourg 6-2, 6-4.
