Top seed Zvonareva in Pattaya semis

PATTAYA, Thailand -- Top-seeded Vera Zvonareva defeated Peng Shuai 6-2, 6-3 Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Pattaya Open.

The fifth-ranked Zvonareva will play Shahar Peer, who defeated Vera Dushevina 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Peer called Zvonareva "a fighter, patient and a good mover on the court."

Earlier, Magdalena Rybarikova upset second-seeded Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-1. The 20-year-old Rybarikova will face Sania Mirza, who beat Tamarine Tanusugarn 7-5, 6-4.

Rybarikova will play in her second semifinal of the year, after reaching the semis at Hobart, Australia.

"It's been a good year for me," she said. "I have been working hard and beat some good players."
